I have imported MasterMap GML files and would like to separate out the different types of feature. The styles are not specific enough for this; for example, all of the different types of "Natural Environment" have the same style number (29). I have been trying to select by display label, but many of the features have labels with a comma, such as "General Surface,Multisurface", which when entered produces an invalid criteria statement. I have tried enclosing the label in double or single quotes, without success. Is there a way of doing this? Is it possible to use wildcards in the criteria search?
Thank you, Phil. |

Hello Phil,
Hmmm? * wildcards seem to work by our side of the channel but ? do not. (ie Edit - Show Selection Manager - Find objects by criteria)
If wildcards do not work then the work-around might be as follows : 1) create a DBF file from the DRA file (or update it if any and add a new MySelection integer column) 2) play with some well-known MS or OOO spreadsheet - wildcards in filters might help - and update with [0:n] integers the new column of the DBF file 3) play with the MM Selection Manager again to create as many layers as needed (Find objects by criteria - Find - Terms Data: MySelection = 0, OK, Actions - Basic operations - Save group as..., etc.)
Bon courage.

Hi Philippe,
Many thanks for your suggestions. After I posted, I read some more of the forum and generated a DBF from the DRA file, then a spent a while adding a new field with modified versions of the labels without punctuation. I then did as you suggested and used criteria searches to extract these. This works, but is quite slow. It would perhaps to have been quicker to select on the basis of integers, rather than text. I'll try that next.
