I have tried to import a DXF file which contains a map of a large (100 hectare) garden. The layer (in Autocad/Intellicad) from which the dxf file is derived is named "Basic Map". On importing this layer into Mapmaker I get the map and also about a dozen or more 'BASIC MAP' texts all over the map rendering it unusable. Help! Michael
There are two options: 1. when importing a dxf file the feature types within the dxf file are listed and you can choose which features to import and which to not import. Sometime the names of the features give a useful clue to what is in each feature, sometime you just need to experiment, but usually you can find which feature or features contain the text objects that you do not want. 2. Alternatively, after importing the file, use "utilities - vector utilities - actions" -> choose DRA file -> "Basic operations - Remove selected object types", and there select text to eliminate the text objects.
I am afraid I must be really dim! Method 1 does not work because the feature types which are listed correspond to layers in the Autocad/Intellicad file and the basic map layer has to be included, it contains some text but not 'BASIC MAP' (I have excluded all the other layers) because it has the basic map layout. Should I try a different version of DXF? The second method does not seem to work either because the large 'BASIC MAP' overlays seem to have lost their text characteristic and do not disappear when I try to eliminate all text. Back to an engineering basis I think and I had such high hopes! Regards Michael
It sounds like the label option in layer set up has not been set to none. When objects are imported from DXF files they are given the name of the DXF layer, so it sounds like you are seeing those names as labels.
