Dear Map Maker users, I have a strange problem indeed.
I created a map with Map Maker. This map includes three layers: a photo, the "cadastre" and the polygons I drew.
I printed this map with PDF-Creator (file / print / scaled print / etc.) and then got a .pdf file.
BUT, when opening this .pdf file (be it with Adobe or PDF Xchange Viewer), I can only see the 3rd layer!
However, what really happens while opening the file is the following: I can see the 1st layer (ie photo) for 1/4 of a second, then the 2nd layer (ie cadastre) for 1/4 of a second, then the 3rd layer (ie polygons) appears, covering the two previous layers!!! And the same thing happens when I adjust the size (zoom in or out) of my .pdf file within PDF Xchange Viewer.
--> This means that the three layer are actually existing in my .pdf, but that they cannot be seen in transparency or superposition.
Let me specify that everything is fine with the working / viewing of my project within Map Maker, and also that I can see the three layers with the "preview" option until I press the “print” button. And also, paper printing with my Canon MG5500 printer is fine.
Another point: this never happened to me before!
Thank you for your help, if you can!
Best regards.

Please help me!
I know this has to do with the settings of one of my layers (cadastre, which is a couple of .bmp + .bpw files).
I am trying different settings and obtain different results in terms of which layers (photo, cadastre, polygons) are going to appear in the final .pdf file, but I cannot find the PROPER settings...
By settings, I mean project manager / style / zooming out or opacity etc.
But there must be something else with these cadastre files that NOW is going wrong.
Thank you!!!

Bonjour Antoine,
I'm afraid that there is no easy solution as far as PDF printing (transparency) is concerned.
You should rather print to a raster file (jpg), and then to PDF as you would do with any other picture.
Bon courage,

Bonjour Philippe!
Do you mean that what I am trying to do is NOT possible with Map Maker?
Isn't it a matter of settings, be it in Map Maker or PDF Creator? Because on the other hand, the preview in MM and the small A4 image printed with my Canon printer are ok; --> it is only when I chose PDF Maker as a printer that it does not work...
My concern is that I wanted to print a very large (A0 format) map, and I found that creating an A0 .pdf file was the best way to get the adequate quantity of information needed (ie ppi) in a nicely adjusted file...
But I did as you suggest, and created a very large raster image (10000 pixels in width). I simply hope it will be fine for the people who are going to print it!
Thanks for your answer anyway; I am glad to see that you are still very active as far as map making is concerned!
Cheers,
Antoine.

It is not a MM issue: current PDF technology (which ever printer you will use) cannot handle translucency. You really need to print it to raster first and then to PDF.

Thank you "Map Maker", for this funny workaround!
Yes indeed, creating the .pdf file I was expecting worked with the method you described, ie after having created a "compose.txt" file in my mmm.exe registry.
For the information of those interested, the intermediate .bmp file is created in your "temp" registry (in my case: C:\Documents and Settings\Antoine\AppData\Local\Temp). It can also be used.
I must specify why, in my case, creating a .pdf file was more useful than creating a .jpg file: as you might be aware of, when creating the printout, you can specify the scale and and the size of the paper sheets your are going to use; and this is very useful to precisely adjust the final result.
On the other hand, using PrimoPdf instead of PDF Creator, as Marketal suggested, did not make any difference: the result was not good.
OK, thanks a lot my friends, this was very helpful.
Best regards,
Antoine.
