Using MapMaker Pro currently and is crashing intermittently upon trying to save layers (about 50% of the time). It will either just crach and kick me out, give me the option of saving but with no ability to select a directory (and therefore cannot save) or give an error message. Any assistance appreciated.

It could be for many reasons but here are two possibilities:
1. If you have a layer of polygons run 'Tidy Polygon Topology' and/or other tidy tools before saving.
2. If you are saving to a drive on another PC it could be because of slow or intermittent network connections
