I am tearing my hair out trying to create altitude legends to accompany elevation bitmaps created from .ter files. I use both the 'by palette' and the 'by bands' options to create my elevation bit maps. There is little help in the 3D Manual. I am unable to relate the legend settings screen to what appears in the legend preview pane. The letters in the title of the legend overlap each other and the legend never seems to fit onto the white background (with a shadow panel underneath it) that appears in the preview pane. I have tried adjusting the legend height and width and also font sizes but am unable to produce a usable/readable legend as illustrated in the manual, and which, it is impled, should appear automatically. The rest of my map furniture such as scales and N point all work ok. I must be missing something. Can anyone please advise me what?
