I see there are a couple of discussions in the archive but not mentioning a problem I have. A landscape architect has sent a .dxf of a property where I have a map which I currently use. I import the features which I want to do and ask MM to ignore the bounding box (as per the FAQ}, which is outside the bounds of uk grid. MM flags up the dimensions are out by a 1:1000 and does a correction. Now the dra produced appears to have the correct dimensions but the geo location is lost. The dra contains a 25m grid,is there an easy way to get it to align correctly on the plot?

Is the Landscape Architect's drawing referenced to the OS grid in the first place? I suspect not. Almost every architect/engineer's drawing that comes through this office is not geo referenced.

You will probably have to use: Utilities/Vector utilities/Actions/Transformations/Shift coordinates of vectors
to reference the .dxf layer to OS grid.

Thanks Irvine, I hadn't considered the possibility it wasn't georeferenced at all because it has a field for grin and these are shown as little crosses. Whilst they are 25m apart I cannot get them to coincide with the OS grid.

I have shifted the vector layer to get a near match with my OS mastermap topographic extract but it doesn't line up well and the scale is a bit out.

I thought it had been drawn with a total station, because it has lots of height data points, but now I wonder.

It looks like you might have to rotate the layer to get a better fit. Architects never seem to bother about making their drawings north up. They just rotate them to any old angle to fit on the paper.

Yes, but I'm amazed, on the surface the map they have produced looks exact, now I don't trust it. I'll take elements and fit them to the OS masterplan to update it. Thanks for your help.
