I still have trouble to print my map with custom symbols from .jpeg images. After many attempts I noticed, that with Quick Print all symbols are printed in the pdf file. As soon as I go to scaled print the problem starts because those same symbols are not printed anymore. Thought that it might be something with german and english decimal separators (german 1:10.000 or without point 1:10000, british 1:10,000), but a few control measurements in a test print indicate that the print scale is coreect with the " , " decimal sperator !
Any idea what might the cause ? |

Gertrude,
I recently had to print to PDF as well and experienced the same frustrations. It was very strange, in the morning it worked fine, in the afternoon it all went wrong and a pattern fill did not print out anymore. Which did make me think it was not a glitch in Map Maker. I tested other PDF printers (there are so many for free about) and by tweaking the settings of one I managed to get my prints out in time. But is was quite a struggle, for now I do suspect hat it is a very odd combination of a windows update in the background and the PDF printer. However, I will not rule out some peculiarities in Map Maker as well, for sometimes Map Maker does not behave as expected with printing. And when that happens it is difficult to pinpoint what and where things go wrong. It most go wrong persistently so that the error can be replicated on demand, and only then the developers are able to fix a problem if it is a problem in the program.
But as mentioned, some problems are not persistent. For example: some changes in printer set-up settings in Map Maker , at times, only seem to take effect after you have closed Map Maker down and fire it up again.
Not that this helps, but I can tell you a story or two about frustrations with printing problems, boy, shear desperation. But as said: would start tweaking the ‘advanced’ settings’ in your PDF printer first and try a few others as well. Currently I use PDFCreator from pdfforge.org.
