I have a file with the positions of about 10,000 trees. These come from 4 different source surveys and the suspicion is that the same trees may be represented more than once. It covers a considerable area. How can I select all points in close proximity of one another, say 3 metres?

Hi Woodplan,

I've been through that kind of process to check a water network topology (pipes' segments and equipments).
I would export the cordinates to a CSV/LOC or MME or even XY (can't remember which was the most convenient format) file and manage to sort and calculate x's and y's proximities with MS Excel. When both are below your threshold, then bingo, you got a duplicate tree!
Map Maker macro might also be useful to get a view, ie load a project and zoom to given cordinates.
Once sorted out a new CSV/LOC file might be imported from MM.

Bon courage.
