Is there an efficient way of loading and using historical map data which is on tif files? (OS Historic data)
I ask as I am about to start a new project using multiple tif files as background data and see a problem in managing the layers-
1) Although only a one off task the tif sheets I've got from OS appear to be only loadable one at a time.
2) Once loaded there will be 23 layers of map tile before any user data layers are added making management of the layers a nightmare.
3) Is it possible to automate the process so bit map tiles swap in/out as needed by the grid reference?
Would users recommend creating one massive background map file mosaic externally in Photoshop from the currently separate tif tiles, loading that and recalibrating it using SW/NE corner data from the OS calibrated tiles? That would be a big file but only one layer to manage in MapMaker.
Only an infrequent MM user for parts of my projects but happy to learn from the MM manual if someone can point me at the relevant sections.
