I'm trying to import a large number of points (~60,000) to overlay on some OS Streetview tiles. I generated the data as a LOC file but when I come to import it via Add Layer MapMaker gives me an error message "invalid line:" and then the program terminates soon afterwards with no further messages. It imports LOC files with smaller numbers of points (~700) OK.

I then tried generating my data as an MME file and importing this. It gets part way through the import and then gives me a message "Out of memory.". I click OK, then click Abort and the message says "Closing process..." and the program then just apparently hangs with the dialog box displayed until I close the program. Again, importing the smaller number (~700 points) as an MME works fine.

I have tried the MME import/conversion both with and without my base maps for the project loaded to see if that helps with the memory problem. It doesn't.

I tried loading my points via several LOC files of up to 30,000 points each, successfully. However once I'd loaded up all 60K or so points and tried to zoom in on the map or drag the map about I got the "invalid line:" message again and then the program terminates.

So...I'm obviously pushing the program out of its comfort zone. Rather than me spend ages trying different sized files until I get one that works, does anyone have some guidelines as to reasonable maxima for points in LOC files and MME files that don't break MapMaker?

Many thanks in advance...

Is this because .loc files are treated as spreadsheets and the memeory is allocated to the maximum sheet size? Whearas the .dra is a database file.

Anyway have you tried loading as separate .loc files, copy to live layer and save live layer as .dra. I've just done this for ~45k post code points and it seems to work.

Good idea. I'll give it a go.

Many thanks Andrew...
