I've created a polygon (.dra) file and would like to import it in to GoogleMaps.
The .dra is situated in the North Yorkshire of the UK and was originally drawn against the background of OS tiles.

I got some pointers from topic (http://www.latitudecartography.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=982) but being a new user of Mapmaker, GoogleMaps etc am getting a bit stuck.

I have exported the .dra to a shapefile set (.shp, .shx and .dbf).

I downloaded and used ogr2gui (http://www.ogr2gui.ca/en/index.php) and made guesses at some of the parameters, specifically the output projection to export to a shapefile set (.shp, .shx and .dbf).
I don't understand the many options offered and have tried 32600 and 32766.
Neither have worked: on opening in GoogleEarth there are a large number of disconnected lines which I assume are the result of reading the .kml file.

Is there anybody who can advise me how I can get what I am looking for?

Regards, David

Hello David,

You got the right pointer.

1) When you export your polygons (DRA file) to an ArcView Shape file, make sure that "Polygon" is ticked at step 2 of 4: Choose object type.

2) Piece of advice: save the exported files to any empty directory but the directory where the original DBF file is saved.

3) Once the geodetic refs are consistent - MM AND ogr command - everything should be ok. A simple way to check this is to load the project in MM and get through File - View in Google Earth.

Bon courage!

Philippe
