I understand how to link external files to symbols on a map so clicking them opens up a photograph, but I also see that moving the layer (with the symbols and links) into the live layer breaks the external link. But surely I have to move the symbol layer to the live layer each time I add a symbol?
As you may have gathered I am rather new to Map Maker

Hello Susan,

Do not load the layer into the live layer from your project manager.
You'd rather get through Edit - Load file into live layer.
Add new symbols.
Then, once saved, it's added to your project manager, remove it and keep the original one that calls the right DRA file and keeps the right links.
