Is it possible to query a .ter file in any way to give a spot height? Or even lable contours?

Hello Andrew,

You cannot query a terrain file as it is not "hit-able".
You can "Show cursor information" - see the Cursor tab in the project manager - ie height, slope and bearing.

Thanks Philippe, I can mark the points and type the height into an arrow from this cursor information.

Use Tools-Query-Surface Query

This will give you information on elevation, slope and slope direction drawn from the udnelying .ter file
